vRealize Application Remote Collector enables virtual infrastructure administrators and application administrators to discover applications running in provisioned Guest operating systems at a scale and to collect run-time metrics of the operating system and application for monitoring and troubleshooting respective entities.
The monitoring and troubleshooting workflows are enabled from vRealize Operations Manager which include the configuration of a Wavefront or vRealize Operations Manager account as well as life cycle management of the agents on the Virtual Machines.

Adding Application Remote Collectors
Now you need to activate the Application Management Pack. Click the Activate link.
This will redirect you to the solutions repository page. Here you need to Activate the VMware vRealize Application Management Pack.
The VMware vRealize Application Management Pack is a native management pack which is already included with vRealize Operations Manager. The Pack only needs to be activated.
Select the VMware vRealize Application Management Pack and Click on Activate
Click on the download button to start the download of the OVF File.
Login to Vcenter with Admin right and Right-click any inventory object that is a valid parent object of a virtual machine, such as a data center, folder, cluster, resource pool, or host From the Actions drop-down Select the Deploy OVF Template Action.
On the Deploy OVF template page do one of the following and click Next:
- If you have a URL to the OVA template which is located on the Internet, type the URL in the URL field. Supported URL sources are HTTP and HTTPS.
- If you have downloaded the vRealize Application Remote Collector OVA file, click Local file and browse to the location of the file and select it.
Select a name and folder page, enter a unique name for the virtual machine or vAPP, select a deployment location, and click Next
Select a resource page, select a resource where to run the deployed VM template, and click Next.
Review details page, verify the OVF or OVA template details.
Accept license agreements page, click Accept
In the Select configuration page, select the size of the deployment

On the Select storage page, define where and how to store the files for the deployed OVF or OVA template
On the Select networks page, select a source network and map it to a destination network. Click Next. The source network must have a static FQDN name or static DNS.
In the Customize template page, provide inputs to configure the vRealize Application Remote Collector deployment. It is mandatory to give these details
On the Ready to complete page, review the page and click Finish
Power On the Arc Sever
After the OVA deployment is complete, you can log in to the virtual appliance from vCenter Server. Right click the virtual appliance that you installed. Click Open Console.
Use the following credentials to log in:
- Username : root Password : vmware
- Change the root user password
Enable the sshd service to access the virtual machine through ssh.
After finish changing the password for the Root Account you need to go back to the VROPS UI – Administration – Application remote Collector to connect the ARC you have deploy to the VROPS, press the + sign to add the new ARC.
provide the ARC FQDN and the Admin API Account and Password you have configure at Deployment
Map at least one Vcenter that the ARC but you can choose multiple vcenters reporting to one Arc to be able to install and Configure Agents and Application Monitoring.
Run the test Connection to see if you are able to access the vcenter.
Verify Test Connection Successful
Press Finish to complete the Registration Process.
Installing and configure the Telegraf Agents
you can move to the inventory to be able to manage Agents , you see next to the Objects there is the Manage Agent Tab, choose the Server you wish to install the Telegraf Agent.
choose Common username & password to provide instance data.
for Linux you just need to provide the root and password
press on the install Agent.
vRealize Application Remote Collector supports 46 application services in Wavefront, above all which 17 application services are also supported in vRealize Operations Manager, furthermore Application Monitoring is plan during the road.
The supported application services are listed here. Some of the application services have mandatory properties which you must configure.
Some of the application services have pre-requirements that you must configure first. After you configure the properties, vRealize Application Remote Collector starts collecting data.
